UPDATE 6/02/12Thanks to everyone who participated! I'll have your artwork completed and sent to you soon!

Having just completed my last batch of commissions, I'm ready to start a new one. But this time, I'm dusting off a practice I tried the first couple times I did these $10 drives, and I'm picking a theme! And the theme this time is...JIM HENSON CREATIONS! That means anything from the Muppets, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, Storyteller, Labyrinth, Emmett Otter, Dark Crystal...well, the list goes on and on. It's all fair game, and for me, the more obscure the better! Now, for those of you who prefer it when I'm open to drawing anything, don't worry. This is just something I want to try for this drive. I'll return to the old ways soon enough.

UPDATE 5/27/12 I'm adding a small concession to this drive--if you have a non-Henson character (an OC, or some pop culture character) that you'd like to be drawn WITH a Henson character, I'll accept it!

THE RULES:
*The first ten people who send me a note here on DA with a suggestion to draw, AND send me payment for it, will be put on the list and have their request honored.
*For just $10, I will draw your request, and will e-mail you a black and white digital file of the artwork.
*Be sure to give me your e-mail address so I can send you the art when it's done, unless it's the same address that's listed on your PayPal statement.
*You CAN request more than one character in a single drawing. Just know that it is $10 per character.
*You CAN request more than one drawing.
*Elaborate backgrounds are an extra $10
*Your request will NOT be locked in until I receive payment. Do NOT just write me with a request and assume your spot is saved. It's first pay, first serve. I accept PayPal, and you can access my account at:
fourpanelhero@hotmail.com
*When sending me notification that your payment has been sent to my PayPal, please include your REAL NAME as well as your DA handle, and the name of the cartoon character you've paid me to draw.
*THIS OFFER DOES NOT INCLUDE ORIGINAL ART--JUST DIGITAL FILES! I needed to make that clear since there's been confusion in the past.
*These commissions are only $10 per character--a very good, affordable, reasonable deal. So any requests for me to go back and change a drawing in any way will require an additional $10.
*I DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT I WILL POST YOUR COMMISSION IN MY GALLERY! It's nothing personal. You are more than welcome to post anything I draw for you on your own page. Just be sure to give me credit for the line work (and if it's a drawing of my characters, credit at their creator), and put in a link to my DA page.

It can take between 1 and 2 weeks for commissions to get completed, but I always leave my customers satisfied. So what're you waiting for? Send me those requests before the list gets filled!

I'm sorry I missed it... but perhaps I'll jump in for the next commission.

Oddly enough, I did have an idea for a Henson-inspired artwork (since Dark Crystal was one of my favorite movies of all time).

I think it's just an off week.
Memorial Day weekend probably took away a lot of your regular visitors. I know I didn't go to some of the sites I normally go to until today or yesterday.
Theme probably thins the crowd a bit too.
But as long as you don't limit it to Tick Characters you should be fine.

You're probably right, Ryan. I'm ditching the theme for future drives. As far as trying to time these drives around major holidays, I'm just going to hope for the best.

By the way, you're not looking for a new desktop wallpaper, are you? Obviously with color and all that, it falls outside the $10 drive, but you have some fun ideas to draw, and I'm happy to accommodate if you need something.

I think it's a cool idea of you doing theme based commissions :) , but I also think the reason why your commissions list is fulling up so slowly is that not many people know that much about Jim Henson's work outside The Muppets Show, Sesame Street, and a few of his other movies & other TV series (and that is just sad). :(

Certainly understandable. of course, the more recognizable characters like the Muppets are still fair game, but not enough people seem to realize that.

Well, how long do you usually leave these up for...just until the slots fill up?

Might just want to put a timer on them like a week or something like that just to keep things flowing and you're not sitting around waiting for people to stop by. Also keep in mind sir, it may not be the theme, per se; people might just not simply have the funds at the moment. I know my idea I was planning on asking you long before you came up for the theme :D

Just random thoughts

And it's much appreciated, believe me. I just tend to wait until the list fills up before I complete these commissions, and since it's taking awhile for that to happen, I don't want to keep those people who already commissioned me waiting. So i figured I'd give fair warning to potential clients that if they want in, time is running out, because I want to get to work on my existing commissions.

With such a great deal for lovely art from such a talented prolific artist, people would be foolish not too.

Hey Jay, I've looked up Henson's career, is there anything I am missing as far as obscurity?
Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, Dark Crystal and Labyrinth are easy then the lesser known stuff like Sam and Friends but aside from what I commissioned of you, is there anything I missed?

Well, there are a lot of characters from Jim's days doing commercials that rarely get mentioned--The Le Choy Dragon, Wilkins and Wontkins, Onkie--there are characters from Jim's failed fairytale TV pilots--King Goshposh, Taminella--there are just a lot of characters that haven't had as much exposure or repeat viewings that folks don't even know about!

your commission drives are seriously the most inexpensive way to get great art. people who are new to my life always look at my Jay gallery and go, "Did you do these?" and I'm like, "Hell no, these are the great Jay Fosgitt." People who know nothing about art will go, "These are great." and people who know a ton about art (and good artists) will go, "These are AMAZING!"

I'm glad I know you!

Hmmmmmm, now if ONLY you could add Ralph Bakshi's "Wizards" or Clive A. Smiths "Rock & Rule" to the equations..

Love "the Storyteller", classic Henson just like "The Dark Crystal".

Sadly, both are very unknown animated gems that are worthy additions to my DVD collection & most of Bakshi's stuff is at the top of my list of animated greats. I thought he never got the credit he deserved for "Cool World" as well even if its a bit more mainstream then his earlier classics. :3

If I had the funds I would love to commish you, but rents due tomm so I gotta wait off on commissioning anyone for at least a week or so even if I would love more renders of my girl done by you.

Love your shorts in Rue Morgue as well since I collect that mag.

I'll make sure to catch up to you when your open again soon to get some more doodles, keep up the toony goodness friend.

I think the issue with "Cool World" is it is more commonly compared to Richard William's famous "Who framed Roger Rabbit?", people assume that since those two are the most well known films involving real life footage mixed with animation that they must be the firsts and since Roger Rabbit is more popular, it is considered better, a arguable point, since A. neither of them were the first movie to mix animation with live action,Disney did that years ago with that slightly controversial film, I believe was named 'Song of the South' and B. If it weren't for Roger Rabbit, Richard Williams wouldn't be very well known, his earlier film, The Thief and the Cobbler, was supposed to be his masterpiece, taking years of work but in the end, was rushed and hammered together until we're given a weak piece of animated film with Vincent Price in it.

Sorry :P
I rant sometimes on animation and animated films.
Have you seen Les Lascars? It's a hilarious French animated film, lots of strange subjects, sexuality, slapstick violence and good jokes, kind of feels like a French animators attempt at making their own Bashki film.

Very true, I noticed I forgot to mention "Roger Rabbit" in there since the two came out around the sametime actually.

I enjoyed both to be honest, but as said I love Bakshi's twisted humor which I think the mainstream was ready for in "Cool World" so that only hampered its underground status with the die hards.

Your fine, I collect animation movies but dont know of that one.

Bashki was often for the crowd who wasn't easily offended and could look for deeper meaning in things, like Heavy Traffice, on the surface all characters were parody's of real life people and stereotypes of people but there was more to the movie than just that :P

I am a huge fan of animated films, I am always searching the net for new, old, obscure, foreign.

I found an english dubbed version of a Chilean animated film called "The Ark" or "El Arca", telling the story of Noah's Ark from the animals point of view, it has far more 'adult' themes than regular American animated films, in one scene, a female lion is trying to explain why the prince shouldn't be allowed to take certain female lions on the Ark and many of her reasons are and I quote "Too busty, too curvy, too sexy".

I am also a big Don Bluth fan and even though most people don't like it, I love Rock-a-Doodle (and that is another movie that mixed animation with live action).

Don't go too deep man, I keep all the basic stuff up front with my regular knowledge, you go too deep and it's like getting lost in the woods without a flash light, I promise you wont like it. :P

One of the books I studied in my free time in high school was easily the oddest "reference" text available at the school library, "Worlds Most Famous Murderers", needless to say, my interest was peaked and I read through that thing, some very interesting murderers and interesting deaths (like the Bathery one I commissioned).
