To commemorate my favorite month (October) and my favorite holiday (Halloween), I'm doing a monster sketch per day.
A fan of mine suggested I draw The Gill Man from "Creature From The Black Lagoon" as part of my monster sketches, and ensured its creation by offering to buy the original drawing from me. This was the third time I've been asked to draw The Gill Man, and his design has always been a challenge for me. But for the first time, I really felt like I nailed it. The disparate elements of his design began to click for me as I drew. Having him pop out of the water seemed like a natural decision. But when it struck me to have it raining down on him on a dark, murky night, that just amped up the creepiness and made my drawing complete. Much as I feared swimming in open water already, this drawing pretty much sealed the deal that I never will again.
