DEAD DUCK GRAPHIC NOVEL ART by JayFosgitt DEAD DUCK GRAPHIC NOVEL ART by JayFosgitt
This particular piece will serve as the title page of the Dead Duck graphic novel. I had a lot of fun writing Zombie Chick's response, and am eager to get the next graphic novel started. I only have one story in mind as of now, but it's a doozy and a long time coming: Zombie Chick's origin. It's gonna be fun! Hope you guys enjoy what's coming!

Good to hear from you! Are you still at good ol' Delta? I may be promoting Dead Duck in Saginaw around Thanksgiving or Christmas if you can make it. Probably at Coy's Comics in old town Saginaw. I'll be posting here when I know for sure!

I've come to the conclusion that Zombie Chick would kick ass on Jeopardy! ;)

Yes, especially in the category: "Answers that have absolutely no connection to the question and most often result in migraines for the question asker."

Or better yet they are the correct questions...just not to the answers Alex is giving - certainly fun watching him fumble his question cards lol

I love your wayyyyyyy cartoony style, and how you draw all your characters as if they are all moving! There is a great sense of movement in this pic, as if Zombie and Dead are actually walking off the page. You truly rock as a cartoonist! Your style is awesome! Can't wait for the graphic novel to come out!

Thanks for the kind words there! I certainly strive to have a feeling of animation in my cartoons, but I can never tell if I've achieved it. Thanks for confirming it for me!

This looks fab, Jay, I hope my bookshop will bring it in for me to buy! :)

Actually, here's a question for ya: If DD and ZC were animated, who would you get to do their voices? just a thought =)

Y'know, I actually think about this all the time. There's a few voice actors I'd love to have. Here's the one's that immediately come to mind.

For Dead Duck, I'd choose John Kassir, who played The Crypt Keeper on Tales From The Crypt, and Buster Bunny for the last couple seasons of Tiny Toons. Sure, he's cornered the market in crazy characters, but I've seen him do drama, and the man has a range like nobody's business. He could go from calm to wacky in a split second, and that's why I'd want him for Dead Duck.

For Zombie Chick, my choice is Alyson Court, a great Canadian voice actress who does loads of work in video games and actually worked with John Kassir in some episodes of the Tales From The Cryptkeeper cartoon. I love her voice, and I think Canadian voice actors get even less credit than American voice actors, and I want to be the guy who brings them into the spotlight. Which brings me to another great Canadian voice actor....

For J.P. Yorick, I'd want the great Don Francks. Don voiced Sabretooth in the original X-Men cartoon (which Alyson Court also worked on as Rogue), but more importantly, Don voiced the villainous Mok in one of my favorite animated movies form the 80's, "Rock & Rule." That role alone proves to me that he could take on J.P. with scary ability.

It goes without saying that I'd also have plumb roles for tons of my other voice acting heroes. My only rule would be NO A-LIST MOVIE STARS VOICING MY CHARACTERS!!! I've talked personally to Billy West (Doug, Stimpy) and Rob Paulsen about this, and appreciate my support.

Whew. That was a lot of typing. But great question, Marian!

Nice answer Jay! I'm gonna have to youtube clips from those shows now to remember those voices properly (I bloody loved rougue'ss voice in the original cartoons, actually all the xmen sound like their voices in that show whenever I read the comics now!first impressions are hard to shake) You've certainly put a lot of thought into this. Here's hoping you get to enlist these guys in the future ;)

I bet the cover will be really bad-ass; this title page is pretty boss as well. Y'know, when I go and buy that at a bookstore, I'm gonna be like, "I know that guy on deviantART," to the cashier. I'd really like to see how Zombie Chick came to be =D

I've never imagined a winged monkey in Jerry Maguire, but if they had one wielding a katana and wearing armor in The Last Samurai, it would've been way cooler XD

Oh hell yes! A winged monkey with a sword? Forget about it! The Wicked Witch would be mopping up winged monkey poop 'til the end of her days!

I'm itching to tell Zombie Chick's origin, so I hope to hell the first graphic novel sells like crack and allows for a second book!

And I'd be very pleased if you or anyone else bragged about knowing me! Makes me feel cooler than I probably deserve to feel!

Yeah, and while it's on my mind, I could see a winged monkey trying to kill Hitler in Valkyrie or use Dustin Hoffman to win at gambling in Rain Man XD

I can't even think of an origin for my superhero character, Quacklad; all the good concepts are taken. I did have this one idea where he was a scientist in the 1890s, experimenting with avian bird DNA to create biological human flight, and got turned into an <Anatidean sapien (duck-man), but then I thought it might be even funnier if didn't even know his origin XD

I'm always happy to tell people about my friends' successes; my friends are always cooler than me XD

Very nice! Somehow, I always see Zombie Chick as kind of like Goldie Hawn from her Laugh-In days...and yeah, Dead Duck should walk like Groucho, maybe even talk like him..

Y'know, I don't know if you follow my blog, but last year I actually mentioned in it that Zombie Chick's original inspiration was Goldie Hawn from her Laugh-In days! I'm thrilled that you picked that out!

I need to add your blog to my regular reading! Looking forward to seeing Dead Duck when it comes out, also looking forward to plugging it at the comics shop. (I'm back working there part-time!)

It's also nice to see someone as talented as you that's willing to talk with fans. I've seen some real diva's in the business! Keep up the good work!

I like to think of myself as down to earth. The coolest professional cartoonists I've met have treated me like I was their best drinking buddy, so I seek to be cool to anyone I meet, fans or otherwise, just like those guys were to me.

I'm eager to have the book done so everyone can see it. I just hope it satisfies my friends and fans!

I have a feeling Zombie chick wouldn't bend her knees much, or else she'd walk very stiff at least. Dead Duck I'm pretty sure would walk low and close to the ground like Groucho Marx.
