I love Rocky and Bullwinkle too. So much so, I have all 5 seasons on DVD. So I hope that carries some weight when I say.
This is fantastic!! I do not believe you have changed the spirit of these characters by doing them in your style. I see touches that, though drawn different, still preserve the spirit of the original creativity.
Even though, in the series, most often their partnership appeared as rock solid. There were moments in which Boris and Natasha showed they could stab the other in the back. So I love the bombs behind their backs.
I think art and personality is true to the original creativity of the show. (this one's a fav)
Thank you! It's nice to meet another Rocky and Bullwinkle fan! The first few seasons are my favorites, for all the vitality and fun of the designs and animation, not to mention the great satirical gags!
Yes, with the entire collection at my disposal. It does seem like the team was running low on energy or something. The later shows are still fun to watch, just not inspirational fun. For I think the show became old hat and formula driven and they lost the newness of it all. (my best guess)
So I too find the earlier seasons more inspirational than later ones.
Nice take on these two, Jay! Now if they could only get Moose and Squirrel for good --- "There he goes. One of God’s own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live and too rare to die.”- Raoul Duke (“Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas”, 1998)
Do you ever wonder what their relationship was? I must be the only one who ever thought about that. They call each other by pet names like "Dahlink" and are always together but I've never seen them kiss or anything....are they married? Friends? Just co-workers? What?
As a kid, I was convinced they were married but according to the character profiles on the "Best of Boris and Natasha" DVD: “Although Boris has repeatedly asked for her hand, she has adamantly refused to part with it.” How cute is that?! So...unrequited love, maybe, although it seems she carries a bit of a flame for him as well.
The writing HAD to be strong to make up for the admittedly bargain animation! That said, I still love the unique designs and wonky animation! Thanks for having me draw these two! I've been waiting so long for someone to commission me to do Rocky and Bullwinkle fan art!
