Yes, though there wasn't an intended joke to this piece. I was commissioned to draw this for a comic convention where voice artists from both shows would be guests, so I was asked to draw all these characters together.
I typically prefer to just draw established characters in my own style. If you look at any of my Popeye art, you'll notice that none of it is necessarily on-model--I just pick and choose elements from my favorite Popeye eras and then put my own stink on it. =0)
Exactly! To me, that's what makes good fan art. Taking the reestablished work, and putting your own spin on it. For instance, I love taking characters and giving them big noses, goofy poses, and perplexed expressions.
